| The consumption of two Brazil nuts daily can raise blood selenium levels by 65 percent. Selenium is an essential trace mineral that plays a role in the prevention of various diseases such as cancer. The most common dietary sources of selenium are whole wheat products like bread. Other products containing selenium are dairy products, meat and fish. Brazil nuts are the richest known food source of selenium. Results of a scientific study showed that the bioavailability of selenium from Brazil nuts was higher than from selenomethionine, one of the most common supplements for selenium fortification. | |
